After a few years of traveling with someone, you learn a few things about them. This includes, in Roland's case, the type of fighting they prefer. It's what he prefers too, to be honest - getting the lay of the land, figuring out how to use it. But they're completely out of their depth here, at least for a little while, and Roland accepts that. Still, he knows Donald isn't completely satisfied.
